The Green Bean
At Rubra we use quality high-grade coffee from around the world. We are fortunate enough to have one of the world’s largest green bean brokers working for us. His role is to provide consistent high quality, defect free green bean to our warehouse door. Every batch of green bean is scrutinized to ensure that the cupping profile of these single origins is to our high standard. This is reflected in the multiple awards we have received from the Judges at the Sydney Royal Show, which is the showcase for Australia’s top roasting companies.
Ethical standards
Positive ethical environmental and social standards are an important factor for our company. Rubra Coffee actively supports Coffee Kids, East Timorese and their plight, the 21st Century Tiger Program in India and is a Rain forest alliance certified and Fair trade Coffee Roaster.
We feel, although it may only be a small part we play in a global market, at the very least we are contributing in some form to raise the standards of living for over 125 million coffee farming families.
Roasting
At Rubra we use a state of the art Coffee Roaster and arguably the best roasting equipment in the world from Probat in Germany. The Germans are renowned for manufacturing very high quality precision pieces of equipment and this is no exception. The Probat Company has been manufacturing Roasters since 1868 and employs over 650 people worldwide. . By using the Probat drum roaster it allows our roasters to create an evenness and depth of flavour to the bean, while allowing the roaster the flexibility to be creative, resulting in a high quality consistent product.
